ASPCA Adoption Center Externship

Apply for Financial Aid Shelter Medicine and the ASPCA ASPCA Adoption Center in NYC Apply

Join the ASPCA Adoption Center's team of skilled medical, behavior, and other animal welfare professionals to gain hands-on shelter medicine experience. Externs will learn how to provide holistic care for individual animals and the shelter population.

Hands-On Experience

Hands-on experience for externs is similar to that of a 4th-year veterinary student to include shadowing cases with a senior clinicians, performing physical examinations, handling of animals, and assisting procedures.

Integrated Treatments

Learn holistic care through cross-team population rounds and by spending time with the Adoption Center behavior team, foster team, and admissions team.

Cross-Departmental Opportunities

Spend time with teams across the ASPCA such as the Animal Hospital, Community Medicine, Forensics, and Kitten Nursery.

We can accommodate externs for 2-4 weeks.

Located on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, the ASPCA Adoption Center is a spacious, state-of-the-art shelter with highly qualified veterinarians and behavior specialists on staff.

Unfortunately, we do not offer housing accommodations or parking. We do offer reimbursement for some program expenses. Learn more.
