Medical Director, Animal Care & Services
The MD oversees two full-time and approximately 27 full & PT vets & animal health techs responsible for direct animal medical care. This is a keystone medical role with leadership responsibility over a passionate committed team managing about 7,000 spay &neuter surgeries per year. Direct experience overseeing & leading a complex daily operations delivering medical services to a diverse community while training, developing, engaging &encouraging a team of dedicated pros & volunteers is what is needed for success in this role. under general direction, performs veterinary services including spay/neuter surgeries; examines and determines preventative medical care and treatments for shelter animals and stray animal emergency cases; and provides oversight for the security and dispensing of drugs and ensures compliance with all federal and state regulations. Performs other related duties as requested.

Performs examinations on animals brought into the animal care facility; ensures incoming animals receive appropriate vaccinations and preventative medicine; performs spay and neuter surgeries; and performs medically necessary surgeries. Evaluates and assigns animals for treatment or medically required euthanasia to prevent suffering. Exercises technical supervision over assigned staff. This position is an "unclassified" position and has no disciplinary appeal rights to the Municipal Civil Service Commission. This position is likewise subject to at-will employment status and can be terminated at any time for any reason.
