Job Summary The Assistant Shelter Manager is a supervisor position that maintains a regular presence in the shelter interacting with Animal Care staff daily. This position is responsible for the direct supervision of the AC Supervisors and AC staff and the workflow of all animal care areas. Supports staff to ensure high-quality animal care is being provided. This position is responsible for controlling and organizing the productivity, accuracy and maintenance of a positive and professional organizational culture and overall output of the department. The Assistant Shelter Manager acts as the department leader and reports to and is responsible for providing feedback to the Shelter Manager. The Assistant Shelter Manager schedules all animal care staff and ensures all necessary equipment and supplies are on hand at all times.

JOB SUMMARY Under the supervision of the Shelter Manager, the Veterinary Assistant provides administrative and medical assistance to the Roice-Hurst Humane Society (“RHHS”) vet care team. This role is the first point of contact for any member of the public receiving veterinary care on their pet. Additionally, this position supports the vet care team by providing routine medical and animal care for shelter pets.
This is a part-time shelter veterinarian position at Animal Care & Control. The primary purposes of this position are to examine and triage animals entering the facility, develop and oversee appropriate treatment plans for animals requiring emergency or ongoing medical care, develop and oversee appropriate behavior plans for animals, monitor the health and care of animals housed at the shelter, and act the capacity of expert witness as needed. This position requires medical/behavioral knowledge of animals including domestic, agricultural and exotic. The is a part-time position with the need for on-call availability when special circumstances arise.

In 2014, VCAS became the largest Open Admission Municipal Animal Shelter in California with a Save Rate of over 90% and has maintained this rate since that time.
