Description
FCCO runs a non-profit high quality high volume spay neuter clinic for feral and stray cats. The ideal candidates for this position will be passionate about our spay/neuter program, have critical thinking skills, good time management and have experience with anesthesia induction and monitoring.
There is a lot of cat handling in this position. You will need to perform the following duties in a safe, positive, cooperative and efficient manner.
Major Duties:
- Clinic opening and closing duties
- Induce anesthesia
- Monitor anesthesia before, during and after surgery.
- Perform surgical prep
- Administer vaccines and other SQ, IM and IV injections
- Surgical assisting, setting up cats for surgery, assisting the surgeon.
- Respond to emergency situations such as cardiac and respiratory arrest
- Feral cat handling, transferring cats from their cage to squeeze cage.
- Assist with tame cat exams.
- Recover patients, extubate, and monitor recovery.
- Move cats between carriers and cage banks.
- Assist with patient check-in as needed
- Instrument prep, including washing, wrapping and autoclaving instruments.
- Learn how to use a humane trap and trapping instructions, how to check in/out a trap.
- Prep cats for check out.
- Give caregivers post op instructions and check out cats.
- Maintain complication log
- Data entry- inputting patient records and charges into software program before patients are checked out.
- Cleaning duties as needed
- Follow the direction of the Clinic Manager
Qualifications:
- Veterinary Technician certified in Oregon.
- 2+ years of clinical experience.
- Experience working for a spay/neuter program a plus.
- Self-directed and responsible team player, with great follow-through on commitments as well as the ability to take direction.
- Support the mission of the Feral Cat Coalition of Oregon.
- Possess and maintain a current Oregon driver’s license and good driving record.
- Able to lift 40 lbs and be on your feet for your shift.
- Patience, tolerance and an ability to work with a varying range of volunteers in a fast-paced setting.
Rate: $28-$31/hour based on experience
