This position announcement will be used to fill a Full-Time, Permanent, Non-Represented, Safety-Sensitive Veterinarian vacancy within the Police Department. This veterinarian position serves as the expert in veterinarian responsibilities for planning, coordinating, and directing veterinary science activities in Animal Care & Control. The primary purposes of this position are to examine and triage animals entering the facility, develop and oversee appropriate treatment plans for animals requiring emergency or ongoing medical care, development and oversee appropriate behavior plans for animals, monitor the health and care of animals housed at the shelter, and acts in the capacity of expert witness as needed. This position will have some supervisory responsibilities, including the supervision of contractual veterinarians. This position requires medical/behavioral knowledge of animals including domestic, agricultural and exotic. The work requires knowledge of the policies, procedures, and regulations of the state veterinary science.

Job Summary Hiring Incentive:$30k hiring incentive ($15k upon starting and $7.5k on completion of each year of first 2 consecutive years of employment). Performs examinations on animals brought into the animal care facility; ensures incoming animals receive appropriate vaccinations and preventative medicine; performs spay and neuter surgeries; and performs medically necessary surgeries. Evaluates and assigns animals for treatment or medically required euthanasia to prevent suffering. Exercises technical supervision over assigned staff. This position is an "unclassified" position and has no disciplinary appeal rights to the Municipal Civil Service Commission. This position is likewise subject to at-will employment status and can be terminated at any time for any reason.
