The Maddie's Clinical Instructor of Shelter Medicine provides instruction within the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Veterinary Medicine Shelter Medicine Program's (UWSMP) Maddie's Shelter Medicine Teaching and Training Programs. This position will provide teaching to veterinary students, interns and residents (if applicable) through clinical training, didactic teaching in rounds, and clinical outreach. Clinical training and outreach currently occur at Dane County Humane Society (DCHS) and in communities where UWSMP is providing access to care services. Accomplished spay/neuter surgeon responsible for leading the HQHVSN program at Planned PEThood. To include ensuring the Planned PEThood team provides excellent pre-, peri- and post-operative care of surgery patients, while managing to a successful bottom line. Responsible for the overall management of the Duluth surgical staff to include training, skills assessment, and establishing appropriate flow. Ability to sterilize approximately 40+ animals (mix of dog/cat; male/female) per day – or capacity to get there. On occasion, provide thorough and compassionate examination and treatment for wellness and foster patients as well as assist in shelter medicine and outreach events/vaccine clinics when needed.
