About Us:
Friends of Russell County Animals (FRCA) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of animals and the people who love them in Russell and Tazewell Counties in Virginia. Through community outreach and enabling access to veterinary services, we work to reduce pet overpopulation and support responsible pet ownership, specifically for low-income individuals.
FRCA is seeking a compassionate and skilled Veterinarian to lead a monthly high-volume spay/neuter clinic in underserved areas of Southwest Virginia. This is a unique opportunity to serve communities in need, prevent unnecessary euthanasia, and promote animal health and welfare through accessible veterinary care.
Responsibilities:
• Perform high-quality, high-volume spay/neuter surgeries (20–30+ per clinic day)
• Provide limited wellness services (vaccinations, deworming, microchipping) as needed
• Oversee veterinary support staff and ensure proper surgical and safety protocols
• Maintain accurate and complete medical records for each patient
• Identify animals needing further care and provide guidance to the rescue team
• Serve as a compassionate ambassador for animal welfare in the community
Qualifications:
• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM or VMD) degree
• Current Virginia veterinary license in good standing
• Experience with high-volume spay/neuter (HQHVSN) strongly preferred
• Willingness to travel to various sites across Russell County and nearby areas
• Strong surgical skills and ability to work efficiently in a mobile or field clinic setting
• Team player with a passion for helping underserved animals and pet owners
Compensation & Schedule:
• One clinic per month (typically held on a weekend)
• Travel mileage and lodging (if needed) reimbursed
• Competitive per-clinic pay, based on experience and volume
• Potential for additional clinic days if desired
