Being able to accurately determine animal sex is a critical skill for anyone working in an animal shelter—and one of the biggest challenges is distinguishing male and female kittens, especially when they’re just a few days old.

This handy poster shows pictures of both female and male genitalia and zeroes in on the differences, which are often hard to see in kittens. It explains what to watch for, particularly the distance between genitalia. (You can use the distance trick for sorting adult cats too.)
