Offsite Adoption Center Assistant (Part-Time)

This grant-funded position works closely with the Volunteer and Outreach Coordinator and Lifesaving Manager.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES*:
- Recruit, train, schedule, and supervise PetSmart Adoption Center volunteers
- Support Volunteer and Outreach Coordinator in evaluation and selection of animals for offsite adoption center(s) and volunteer activities
- Regularly transport animals to and from offsite adoption center(s) to maintain consistent population, ensuring that animal locations are properly recorded and appropriate records accompany any offsite animals
- Conduct regular volunteer training at offsite adoption center(s), instructing volunteers on cleaning and feeding animals, conducting adoption meet-and-greets, and processing adoptions
- Maintain open lines of communication with offsite adoption center management and staff
- Report any animal health or behavior concerns to shelter management team
- Ensure offsite adoption center(s) is fully stocked and supplies are properly stored
- Follow department protocols and policies, ensuring to support Open Adoptions practices and philosophies and keep accurate records
- Maintain continuing knowledge of the current animals available for adoption and a thorough understanding of their medical and behavioral needs to make good adoption matches
- Ensure a culture of high quality customer service for both internal and external customers
- Treat all animals (including humans!) with kindness, compassion, and empathy at all times

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Valid driver’s license and ability to drive a van
- High School diploma or GED and some college, trade, vocational school, college, or further education preferred
- In lieu of educational credentials, applicants with equivalent work experience will be considered
- Must be proficient using a computer
- Knowledge of Gmail, Google Drive, and Microsoft Office Suite Programs
- Knowledge of Shelterluv Animal Management Software is a plus
- Flexible schedule with weekend and evening availability as volunteer training and outreach opportunities may vary from week to week
- Prior experience working in shelters or with animals is a plus, but not required
- Able to creatively solve problems and work cooperatively with team members and volunteers
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Detail-oriented and able to follow directions and balance multiple tasks
- Able to lift 50 lbs
SALARY: Competitive wage will be commensurate with experience, starting at $13-14/hr
IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Lifesaving Manager
HOURS: FLSA STATUS - NON-EXEMPT POSITION Part-time position hours are dictated by the needs of the organization. Daily hours and days of the week (for both full and part-time positions) may vary according to the needs of the department schedule includes: days, nights, weekends, holidays, overnight, and on-call work
INTRODUCTORY ASSESSMENT PERIOD: The introductory assessment period runs from the date of hire for three months thereafter. For employment in any position with Morris Animal Refuge, this introductory assessment period is the period during which the specifics of the job are learned. During this period, either the employee or Morris Animal Refuge may end the employment relationship without notice or prejudice.
