High Volume Spay/Neuter Veterinarian

General Description:
Responsible for daily care of all surgical patients, ensuring all clinic staff members are adhering to proper pre-, peri- and post-operative care of patients.
Position will include high volume, high quality spay/neuter surgery and occasional vaccination or preventative care clinics.
Responsible for training staff in all aspects of patient care and efficient/safe clinic practices, maintaining a professional and friendly manner at all times.
Act as a steward of ARC’s mission, values and principles, ensuring all business endeavors and relationships are consistent with the organization’s mission, policies and goals.
The offices and operations of this clinic may be high stress and very busy at times. This position is scheduled for 5 days/week, usually Monday through Friday.
Qualifications:
1. Must be a licensed Veterinarian in the state of Florida
2. Must maintain all current and correct licensure
3. Physical Requirements
A. Must be able to work standing or sitting for 8 or more hours
B. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds repeatedly throughout the day with help
C. Must be able to work in potentially extreme environmental temperatures
D. Repetitive movements such as bending, kneeling, stooping, crawling, standing, and other similar activities are required.
E. Ability to hear, talk, use hand dexterity required. Additionally, specific visual abilities, including close vision and ability to adjust focus is required.
F. Noise level is moderate to high.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Functions may include but are not limited to the following:
Achieve Organizational Results:
1. Examine animals pre-operatively to determine their ability to withstand surgery
2. Perform surgical sterilizations, averaging 25-30 surgeries of mixed capacity, including small, medium and large male or female dogs up to 100 lbs., male and female cats. Mentoring can be provided by an experienced veterinarian if necessary to increase capacity.
3. Examine animals post-operatively to ensure appropriate healing
4. Inoculate animals and provide recommendations for follow up care
5. Supervise post-operative rechecks and order of medical treatments as necessary to ensure complete surgical recovery
Staff Leadership and Medical Oversight:
1. Creatively problem solve on a daily basis
2. Make reasonable and sensible medical decisions
3. Work with Clinic Manager to continually improve all training programs
4. Ensure all clinic staff members are adhering to proper pre-, peri- and post-operative care of patients
5. Supervise handling and recording of controlled substances by Veterinary Technicians
6. Provide input to Clinic Manager on staff performance, capacity and scheduling.
7. Work alongside and support any relief veterinarians who provide additional surgical support when needed.
7. Effectively “team lead,” displaying a positive attitude and acting as a motivating
force for all staff members, supporting and endorsing ARC and its management
8. Solicit input and communicate updates regarding the clinic’s disease control
protocols, surgical protocols, or other medical issues as appropriate
9. Provide medical oversight of the clinic program, including evaluation of medical, surgical, and disease control protocols
10. Communicate effectively with clients and colleagues
Compliance and Accreditation:
1. Maintain Florida Veterinary Medical License
2. Must hold a current DEA license
3. Practice ethical Veterinary Medicine at all times
4. Ensure compliance with all regulatory, safety, security and operational standards
related to animal care and the practice of Veterinary Medicine with respect to
healthcare, daily maintenance, impounding, behavior modification/enrichment
and euthanasia – including limiting the practice of Veterinary Medicine to licensed
Veterinarians
5. Ensure all animal care services performed through ARC meets or exceeds all
best practices and professional standards, and are consistent with client
expectations
6. Stay abreast of current animal welfare issues, regulations, standards, best
practices, etc. as well as the changing needs of the community
Job Type: Full-time
Salary: $120,000.00 - $150,000.00 per year
