Description
Responsibilities & Duties
- Daily husbandry (cleaning, feeding, monitoring) of onsite cats and dogs
- Developing and implementing enrichment programs and protocols to maintain mental health of animals in the shelter
- Assisting with animal intake, adoption, and transfers into the shelter
- Developing and implementing reward-based animal training protocols
- Communicating with and educating the public, adopters, and fosters
- Assisting medical team with vet checks, procedures, and surgeries
- Completing individual project in an animal welfare-related topic area
- Completing team fundraising project with other interns
- We strongly encourage accepted applicants to be creative and share input on your individual passions. This is a fluid internship that we hope will be mutually beneficial.
Eligibility & Requirements
- 18+ years of age
- Mandatory attendance Intern Orientation
- May 28th 2024, 10am-4pm
- May 29th 2024, 10am-4pm
- 10 week commitment (minimum)
- Minimum of 24 hours/week (scheduling will be discussed upon acceptance)
- Proof of full COVID-19 vaccination and booster
- Ability to travel to and from Philadelphia 3-4 days/week
- Adherence to dress code (long pants, closed toed shoes, etc.) and other safety protocols
- Enthusiasm for learning and a positive attitude
- Previous animal experience is a plus, but not required

- Spearhead individual and team projects to hone research, communication (written and oral), and teamwork skills

- Participate in additional educational presentations throughout the summer

We recognize that the COVID-19 situation is ever-changing and unpredictable. We will make every effort to run the 2024 Summer Internship, but if we cannot do so safely MAR staff reserves the right to postpone or fully cancel the program at any time before or during the session.
