The ASPCA's guidelines, based on ASV’s Veterinary Medical Care Guidelines for Spay-Neuter Programs (JAVMA, July 15, 2016), require a multi-modal anesthesia protocol which incorporates analgesia, mandatory use of an opioid and one other pain-relieving drug. We consult with board-certified veterinary anesthesiologists to ensure our protocols are comprehensive and consistent with best practices in pharmacology.
Proper dosing and medication tracking can be confusing, and when you operate a high-quality, high-volume spay/neuter clinic, it’s especially important to find efficient tracking mechanisms.
The following drug protocols are used by the ASPCA Spay/Neuter Alliance to deliver and record the appropriate drugs for patients. Your protocols may be different, so your drug charts may need to be adjusted.
