Animal Shelter and Community Medicine Journals for Publication
The fields of Shelter and Community Medicine have their own journal for publication.
The Journal of Shelter Medicine and Community Animal Health (JSMCAH) is an independent, online, open-access journal published by the Association of Shelter Veterinarians. Launched in December of 2022, JSMCAH is the only journal focused on shelter and community medicine practice.

JSMCAH’s first manuscript was the long-awaited second edition of the ASV Guidelines for Standards of Care in Animal Shelters. Being open-access and online means that this valuable information and cutting-edge research is accessible to all working and volunteering in shelter and community medicine.

Are you interested in publishing?
Professionals working in shelter and community medicine are encouraged to expand their reach by submitting their work to JSMCAH. The journal is committed to reducing barriers to publication for emerging researchers and those outside of academia and offers mentorship for first-time authors. Various article types are welcome, including original research, case studies, professional guidelines, and review articles. Submissions should be relevant to shelter and community animal health, behavior, and welfare. Publication fees are waived through 2024.
