Job summary:
Humane Animal Partners is seeking a part-time or full-time, licensed veterinarian to join our growing team and to help us reliably care for the animals in our community. Our Community Wellness Veterinarian will see public clients through our low-cost wellness clinic at both our Wilmington and Stanton/Christiana campuses. Preferably, this candidate will work at least one day at each campus and will be flexible with their ability to see scheduled appointments on some days and walk-ins on others. Our Community Wellness clinic strives to reach those of all socioeconomic levels, and at times can provide them with resources to get appropriate care for their pet’s through grants or other funding.
Essential job functions:
All of the following are to be performed while adhering to the Humane Animal Partners Delaware employee handbook and operational policies, safety rules and procedures:
- Communicate diagnoses, treatments and recommendations to clinic staff and the public, and answer client questions in person or over the phone when needed
- Assess wellness patients with surgical needs, explaining the procedures and associated risks or considerations, and helping to coordinate surgery with our shelter surgeons or referral to specialty or emergency practices as needed
- Collaborate with leadership team to ensure HAP Delaware hits monthly and annual goals
- Communicate ideas and use a problem-solving approach to provide high quality veterinary care, while understanding resource limitations
- Perform humane euthanasia on publicly owned animals when necessary, as well as provide guidance on end-of-life decision making
- Be part of an energetic, upbeat team dedicated to the advancement of our lifesaving programs (which includes adoption, foster, wellness, spay/neuter and community services)
Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Must be a Licensed Veterinarian in the state of Delaware, or ability to acquire licensing prior to onboarding
- Ability to examine, diagnose, and prescribe treatment for a variety of injuries and illnesses in dogs, cats and (occasionally) small animals
- Strong interest in community and shelter medicine a plus
- Interest in keeping up-to-date on latest veterinary and shelter medicine trends
- Collaborate with other veterinarians on surgery needs for community animals and complex medical cases
- Interact with veterinary professionals, the public, shelter partners, and HAP staff members with respect and patience
- Must be able to work efficiently and effectively under sometimes stressful conditions and in an often fast-paced environment
- Have the ability to work both as part of a team and independently with minimal direction
Hours/Pay
- This position may be part or full-time
- Six-hour work day
- Pay dependent on experience, and will be offered as an hourly rate for part-time work. Very competitive rates and flexibility offered!
