Director of Veterinary Mentorships

Position Overview: The Director of Veterinary Mentorships oversees all aspects of the veterinary mentorship programs, including program development and creation of medical protocols. This role ensures the delivery of high-quality, humane, and efficient veterinary care, including high-volume spay/neuter, shelter medicine, and community wellness. This position contributes to the strategic planning and expansion of veterinary mentorship initiatives and related programs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Implement and oversee all medical protocols and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for Veterinary Mentorship Program in alignment with industry standards (e.g., ASV Guidelines, AVMA, state board regulations)
- Perform high-quality, high-volume spay/neuter surgeries and demonstrate model surgical practices
- Provide hands-on training to mentees on spay/neuter and other soft tissue procedures, overseeing 10+ trainees per rotation and 1,200+ surgeries per month
- Design, implement, and continually update training curriculums focused on HQHV spay/neuter surgical techniques and best practices
- Foster a supportive learning environment that promotes skill development and confidence
- Provide regular reports to both internal and external leadership on program performance, challenges, and opportunities for growth
- Guide the development and expansion of veterinary mentorship programs, including public wellness clinics and shelter support
- Share knowledge and promote a culture of continuous improvement within the organization
Qualifications:
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Degree
- Licensed to practice veterinary medicine in Texas, or ability to become licensed
- Current DEA License
- Experience in shelter medicine and HQHV S/N
- Positive attitude and openness to new and innovative ideas
