Description
About the Role
The Shelter Veterinarian oversees all aspects of feline medical care for cats in our shelter and foster program. You’ll handle preventive care, diagnostics, surgery (including spay/neuter and dentals), and treatment of illness or injury. You’ll also guide our team, foster caregivers, and volunteers to ensure every cat receives the highest standard of care.
What You’ll Do
- Provide daily medical evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment for shelter and foster cats.
- Perform spay/neuter surgeries and other soft-tissue or dental procedures.
- Develop and maintain preventive care and disease control protocols.
- Support foster caregivers with medical guidance and follow-up care.
- Train and educate staff and volunteers on feline health and handling.
- Maintain accurate medical records and ensure regulatory compliance.
What We’re Looking For
- DVM degree and active Georgia veterinary license (required).
- DEA license (or ability to obtain).
- Experience or strong interest in feline and shelter medicine.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Passion for animal welfare and the Good Mews mission.

Schedule
24–30 hours per week (generally 3 days on-site, with flexibility for remote work, meetings, and on-call needs).
