The Role
As a Senior Veterinary Assistant on our Clinic Services team, the core of your responsibilities revolves around keeping both the animals at our shelter and animals in the public happy and healthy.
General duties include:
- Responsible for calculating and accurately drawing up anesthetic drugs and giving animals their pre-surgery medication
- Monitors and preforms dental prophylaxis and dental x-rays when assigned
- Oversees technician-driven appointments, ensure animals are healthy and in good standing for vaccines, blood draws, prevention needs and other testing needs
- Leads Clinic Veterinary Medical team in the preparation and recovery of animals admitted for surgery.
- Oversees and coordinators all pre- and post-operative procedures.
- Provide excellent customer service to all visitors and clients.
- Assists in intake of all animals scheduled for surgery including ensuring all paperwork is properly completed by owners and all vaccines are current & explaining any high-risk factors to owners and have them sign the appropriate release form.
- Trains new hires with general duties and responsibilities.
Who are we looking for?
- Required: 6+ years of vet assistant related experience and/or training.
- Required: Working knowledge/understanding of anesthetic procedures and drug calculations
- Fluency in both Spanish and English is a plus.
- Enthusiasm for the mission of the Humane Society of Charlotte and helping animals and people in our community.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills required.
- Must have a reliable mode of transportation.
- Must be comfortable interacting with dogs and cats.
