Behavior Training Manager
Description
The key responsibilities of this position are to develop a comprehensive animal training and enrichment program. These concepts will include: Creating, implementing, and communicating daily enrichment and training plans for shelter pets, Coordinating pathway planning for all animals in our care with the assistance of the management team, Identifying the individual behavioral needs of at-risk animals based on shelter resources and assisting with increasing their live outcomes when appropriate, Participating in ‘Daily Population Rounds’ to monitor the behavioral and medical health of all shelter pets, Developing and maintaining the operational structure for daily dog play groups, including assessing the playstyle of new shelter dogs, Establishing standardized terminology for objective behavioral observations, Ensuring accurate entry of animals' behavioral records in the shelter's software, Performing behavioral assessments of shelter animals when necessary, Monitoring progress of pets housed in restricted sections due to public safety concerns, Developing a primarily volunteer-led enrichment initiative for shelter cats and dogs, assisted by staff when needed, Participating in kennel team huddles, Conducting staff trainings regarding best practices for animal handling topics, Recommending and developing Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) to improve internal processes and create efficiencies, Offering dog training guidance through the development of informational resources for internal and external use, Covering for Kennel Manager and Supervisors when needed, Communicating and interacting with other shelter sections and the public, Work during Emergency Declarations, Performing related work as assigned.
