Step 4: Decide What to Provide & Gather Supplies
Average Time Needed
About a week
Description
Your coordinator can handle this task, which includes letting Adoption Ambassadors know up front what out-of-pocket expenses they’ll have. For example, are you providing food, litter, etc. or are your fosters being asked to take that on?
You’ll need some money to pay for supplies—or communications to ask for donations. (It’s always a good idea to have extras on hand, since Adopt Me vests can get torn or lost and leashes walk away!)
Details to Consider
If you’re supplying the basics, you’ll need a stash of:
- Food
- Litter
- Crates
- Toys
- Collars
- Leashes
- Tags
There are also the must-haves you should have ready to go:
- Medications or preventatives (flea/tick/heartworm)
- Adoption paperwork ( or perhaps back-end access to your shelter software if process adoptions that way)
- Medical information specific to each animal
And you need specific supplies or materials needed to support Ambassadors in finding homes for their animals:
- Adopt Me vests
- Business cards
