Position Overview
Denkai Animal Sanctuary is seeking an additional Veterinarian to join our established team at our Affordable Care Veterinary Clinic in Durango, Colorado.
This position is being added to support a growing caseload and increasing community need. The incoming veterinarian will work alongside experienced veterinarians, skilled technicians, and a strong support staff in a collaborative, mission-driven environment.
This role is ideal for a veterinarian who values purpose-driven medicine, teamwork, and service to underserved populations.
About Denkai
Founded in 2004, Denkai Animal Sanctuary has provided care and services to over 40,000 animals. Our organization operates:
- A 40-acre sanctuary in Hesperus, Colorado
- An Affordable Care Veterinary Clinic in Durango, Colorado
Our clinic focuses on improving access to veterinary care for:
- Low-income individuals and families
- Seniors on fixed incomes
- Rural and under served communities
- Rescue and at-risk animals
Key Responsibilities
- Perform spay/neuter surgeries (including high-volume opportunities)
- Conduct soft tissue surgeries
- Provide wellness and preventative care
- Diagnose and treat illness and injury
- Handle urgent and same-day cases
- Collaborate with veterinary and support staff to deliver efficient, high-quality care
- Support rescue and sanctuary-related cases as needed
Schedule
- Full-time position
- Five (5) days per week
- Some weekend coverage required

Compensation
- Experienced Veterinarians: $130,000 ā $150,000 annually (DOE)
- New Graduates: Entry-level salary based on experience and mentorship provided
This position does not include traditional benefits such as PTO, loan repayment, or housing assistance. However, veterinarians working in nonprofit and rural settings may qualify for federal loan forgiveness programs.
Qualifications
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM or equivalent)
- Eligible for veterinary licensure in the state of Colorado
- Strong clinical and surgical skills (or willingness to develop)
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
