Shelter Color Coding
When Idaho Humane Society decided to install acoustic baffling to reduce noise levels in their kennel rooms, they had the great idea to use a different color for each aisle.
Who:
Idaho Humane Society, Boise, ID
Did What:
Since adopters are offered the freedom to bring dogs to the backyard or designated rooms to get acquainted, Idaho Humane Society’s color coded aisles help folks remember where the dogs came from when it’s time to head back to the kennels.
According to IHS, it’s not just visitors who benefit from this neat navigational trick—staff and volunteers find it useful, too. With a number of fairly identical kennel rooms and a goal to get all dogs walked three times a day, the eight color coded aisles help orient their team.
Now You Try It:
Acoustic baffling in assorted colors can be found online. Consider asking for donations to help you procure some to hang around your shelter.
