Many Adoption Ambassadors meet potential adopters out and about in the community, says Sariah Hopkins, volunteer executive director of Safe Harbor. “Being able to talk to strangers and being excited to talk about fostering is the most effective marketing tool,” says Hopkins.
Safe Harbor’s Adoption Ambassadors have had great success doing the following:
1) They harness social media
According to Hopkins, all of the Adoption Ambassadors are active on social media, particularly Facebook. She says the agency loves seeing fosters post things on their own social media, and she has also authorized some Adoption Ambassadors to be administrators on the rescue’s social media pages.
2) They wear it well
All Safe Harbor Adoption Ambassadors get an “Ask Me How I Save Lives" polo shirt that they wear out in the community, and “I’m Adoptable” harnesses are also available for the horses to wear. Ambassadors frequently attend horse shows and other events with their foster horses, generating a lot of conversations from their branded gear.
3) They see the signs
Adoption Ambassadors also display “Foster Farm” signs on their fences, letting passersby know, “This farm is home to adoptable rescue animals.”
4) They keep adoptions rolling
Foster families are also given car magnets that can be displayed on their vehicles to advertise their foster horse!
Adoption Ambassadors have the highest adoption rate of any of the five foster tiers and tend to be great matchmakers since they know their horses so well. In fact, Hopkins says the return rate for Adoption Ambassador adoptions is negligible.
