Shelter Veterinarian
Description
Works closely with the shelter medical team which consists of veterinary technicians, veterinary assistants, and other staff. Works closely with private practice clinics when necessary;
● Confident surgical skills for high volume spay/neuter; TNVR program; other surgical procedures (enucleations, lumpectomies, amputations. Experience with orthopedics is a plus.);
● Overseeing medical care for shelter animals, community outreach, foster and adoption programs; endorsing health certificates for transport;
● Reviews and updates high standard shelter protocols for preventative medicine and regional health threats;
● Oversees pricing and choice of clinic medications, products, and services;
● Oversees shelter and clinic is fully equipped to provide quality medicine (vaccines, tests, nutraceuticals,
surgical supplies, etc.);
● Ability to offer confident medical and surgical skills in a high paced environment;
● Good record keeping;
● Ability to work with a socioeconomically variable clientele.
● Willingness to help with end-of-year data/budget and provide a report on area achievements.
● Articulates staffing and budget needs to the Executive Director and/or Board of Directors.
● Participate in fund-raisers when needed.
● USDA accreditation, or willingness/ability to become accredited.
