We are looking for someone to join our team of dedicated technicians to help us deliver optimal and humane medical services to the animals in our care. As our Animal Health Triage Technician, you will assist in providing proper medicinal care, preventative treatments, and appropriate housing for our shelter animals.

Maricopa County Animal Care and Control, with shelters in Phoenix and Mesa, serve the dogs, and residents of Maricopa County. As one of the largest open/managed-admission shelters in the nation, the two shelters take in more than 30,000 dogs and cats every year. We Require
-
High school diploma or GED
-
One year of experience treating and handling animals in a veterinary hospital, humane society, or another animal facility
We Also Value
-
Experience as a veterinary technician
-
Completion of a certified curriculum in veterinary technician/assisting
Job Contributions
-
Administer vaccines, prescribe medications and boosters, dispense flea and tick preventatives, complete routine clinical laboratory testing, and perform treatments on shelter animals

Receive animals into the shelter, scan for identification, enter information into database, maintain medical records, and take identifying photographs
-
Clean, disinfect, and maintain work areas and job-related equipment

Survey the shelter population to identify animals in need of medical attention, grooming, or sterilization
-
Provide emergency treatment in life-threatening situations as directed by staff veterinarians and perform follow-up treatment as prescribed

Educate adopters on appropriate medical care including post-operative instructions and annual vaccinations

Provide quality customer service to clients, volunteers, and staff while actively promoting our mission, services, programs, and events
Working Conditions
-
Work is performed indoors and outdoors, with exposure to extreme and varying temperatures, dogs and cats with unknown temperaments and behaviors, excessive noise, animal waste and fluids, deceased animals, cleaning chemicals, and zoonotic diseases

Ability to lift and carry up to 50lbs

Ability to bend, stoop, stand, and walk on various surfaces, including slippery, uneven, and rough

Ability to work weekends, holidays, and shifts between 5 AM and 7 PM
