The ASPCA will be providing travel expense grants of $2,000 each to veterinarians from northern tier states-- Alaska, Washington, Idaho, Montana, North Dakota, Minnesota and Wisconsin—to travel to the ASPCA Spay Neuter Alliance* Clinic in Asheville, NC.
Applicants will be required to provide a Statement of Financial Need demonstrating that traveling to the ASPCA Spay Neuter Alliance campus for on-site training for four days (Monday through Thursday) would pose a financial burden to them. Additionally, applicants will be asked to explain how the training will enable them to make spay/neuter services accessible for owned and homeless dogs and cats in their communities.
Three travel expense grants of $2,000 will be offered per year through 2020
The ASPCA Spay/Neuter Alliance has reserved blocks for its program throughout the year, but dates will be issued on a first-come, first-served basis. Apply early for the program to ensure availability.
No on-site accommodation will be offered for participants of this program.
Up to 26 North Carolina continuing education credits may be granted for participation in the program (please check with your state veterinary medical board to see if these credits may be transferred). The program is not RACE certified.
This Request for Proposals (RFP) is limited to three veterinarians per year from the states of Alaska, Washington, Idaho, Montana, North Dakota, Minnesota or Wisconsin. The application opens on April 17, 2018. Applications will be reviewed and accepted on a rolling basis throughout the year. Grantseekers must apply through the ASPCA online Grants Portal.
Participant must be an individual, licensed veterinarian working in a private practice or university program. (Note: Travel Expense Grants will only be made to individuals – not to organizations. Veterinarians representing 501c3 non-profit organizations or government agencies must apply through the ASPCA Scholarships and Sponsorships page).
If awarded, funds may only be used to cover travel (including airfare and airport transfers to and from the training site in Asheville, NC, plus local transportation and/or car rental expenses), meals, and hotel/lodging expenses.
Note that any expenses over the budgeted $2,000 grant amount will need to be covered by the grant recipient.
Note there is usually a lunch program Monday-Thursday for $4 onsite at the ASPCA Spay/Neuter Alliance campus. On these days when lunch is available, the $4 lunch fee will be waived for travel grant recipients.
Under the "Preferred Dates" section of the Veterinary Training application, please indicate your top three date choices for the program, as well as your intent to apply for the Travel Expense grant.
An ASPCA Spay/Neuter Alliance representative will contact you to confirm available program dates, which will serve as a provisional acceptance into the Veterinary Training. Your grant application must be submitted within 7 business days of notification of provisional acceptance into the program. Grant applications received after the due date may not be considered.
You will be notified of the decision on your grant application within 2-3 weeks, at which time you will need to confirm your participation in the Veterinary Training program with your Spay/Neuter Alliance representative.
At the end of the grant period, grant recipients will be asked to submit a Final Report including a detailed Financial report showing how the grant funds were expended. Please keep close track of your expenses and save all receipts so that you can accurately report back to us on the use of the grant funds.Note that unexpended balances of over $100 will need to be returned to the ASPCA.
