In this seven-part recorded series, presented in conjunction with the Society for Animal Welfare Administrators (SAWA), you will learn best practices for creating or expanding your companion animal transport program.
These sessions are free and may be listened to any time that fits your schedule. They make great staff training and are beneficial for anyone working at source or destination shelters and rescues. Adoption and foster coordinators, veterinarians, vet techs, animal shelter and rescue group leaders and transport drivers will find them especially helpful.
This webinar, the first in the 7-part series, provides an overview of transport best practices, including how to foster open relationships between source and destination agencies, minimize animal stress and disease transmission and collect data.
The second webinar in the series can help prepare your organization to safely select, transport and/or house incoming animals. Tips are presented on determining community demand for relocated animals and developing clear messaging on how transports will benefit both source and destination communities.
The third webinar in the series focuses on how to create and foster successful relationships between source and destination shelters. Sample Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) are provided.
The fourth webinar in the series covers what it takes to get animals ready for the road and how to properly receive them once they’ve arrived safely. Topics covered include how to select, inspect and ensure the safety of transported animals and important legal issues to consider— especially when transporting across state lines
The fifth webinar in the series focuses on core and other recommended vaccines and tests for transported animals. Tips are also provided on funding transport and creating transport goals.
The sixth webinar in the series covers the nuances of transporting felines and includes information on properly selecting, vetting and relocating them with minimal stress.
The seventh and final webinar in the series addresses companion animal transport questions submitted by shelters and rescues across the country. Questions are fielded by a panel of five animal welfare professionals whose organizations have successful transport programs.
Content from all seven webinars is based on SAWA’s comprehensive transport best practices document and each webinar is approved for one hour of CE credit, for a total of seven hours.
