The ASPCA Legal Department provides counsel to the ASPCA and its staff. Although we cannot provide legal advice to, or act as an attorney for, outside organizations or individuals, one of our goals is to provide the public with information and resources that may be helpful in resolving problems. None of the information on the ASPCA's web pages should be construed as providing legal advice.

Acceptance of Terms of Use
Your use of The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals® (http://www2.aspca.org/, http://www.animaland.org/, http://www.aspcaeducation.org/, http://www.aspcapro.org) (the "website") is contingent upon your acceptance of and compliance with the following Terms of Use.  By using the ASPCA's website you acknowledge that you have read and agreed to these terms.  If you do not agree with these Terms of Use, please do not access or use any of the website.

Use of Material on this Site
The ASPCA owns and maintains their website for your personal and educational purposes. This Privacy Policy applies only to the website. In addition to our own website, we provide links to other third party websites that are not under the ASPCA's control.  The ASPCA is not responsible for the privacy policy or content of any website linked to from the Web Sites.

What information does the ASPCA collect?
The ASPCA collects non-personally identifiable information about you through your IP address, computer settings and/or most-recently visited website.  We may also ask you to provide certain non-personally identifiable information about yourself, such as your age, household income, buying preferences, etc.  We do not collect any personally identifiable information about you unless you voluntarily submit such information to us, by, for example, filling out a survey or registration form.  The types of information that may be requested include your name, address, email address, and telephone number. In no case does the ASPCA share telephone numbers or e-mail addresses or permit other organizations to solicit our donors through either of these mediums.  Your may opt out of receiving communications from us by sending an e-mail to website@aspca.org with your complete name, address, and e-mail address.  The ASPCA assumes no responsibility for the data collection and use practices of third parties that process online credit card transactions.  You may request a record of your information by calling the Development Department at (212) 876-7700 during normal business hours, Monday-Friday, 9:00am-5:00pm or by e-mail at development@aspca.org.

How is the information used?
The ASPCA respects your privacy and has instituted policies intended to ensure that your personal information is handled in a safe and responsible manner.  We may use this information to deliver information to you about our company and promotional material from some of our business partners, as well as for trend analysis, pattern detection, and website administration.  Your information may also be used to contact you and share with other companies that may want to contact you with offers consistent with your stated preferences and/or our mission or for other solicitation purposes.  Non-personal demographic and profile data is used to tailor your experience at our website, showing you content we think you might be interested in.  Occasionally, the ASPCA may contact visitors who have provided their personally identifiable information through the website to conduct surveys seeking feedback about their experience on the website.  These surveys are used for quality assurance purposes to improve our level of customer service.  The data collected may be shared with third parties on an aggregated basis.

Does the ASPCA use cookies?
When you register on our website, we might store some information on your computer in the form of a "cookie" (i.e. a small piece of text that stores information on your browser in your computers hard drive) or similar file.  We do this to collect information about your activities on the website, make it possible for you to keep track of items you wish to purchase on our website, deliver to you content that is specific to your interests, and/or to prevent you from re-entering all your registration data at each connection.  The cookies shall only be used to obtain non-personal information to improve your online experience. No other information is stored in these cookies.  You can set your browser to notify you when you receive a cookie and delete any cookies you receive.

How secure IS THE ASPCA's WebSite?
Our website has industry standard high encryption security measures in place to protect the loss, misuse and alteration of the information under our control.  The ASPCA makes every effort to protect your online order information by using Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology.  SSL encrypts your order information to avoid the decoding of that information by anyone other than the ASPCA.  We do not store your credit card information.

Does the ASPCA collect information from children?
No one under the age of 18 is allowed to register on the website.  The ASPCA is committed to safeguarding our users' online privacy and recognizes the importance of protecting the privacy of personal information, particularly that of children.  The ASPCA takes all required steps to protect the privacy and safety of children in accordance with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act ("COPPA") .  To review the measures the ASPCA takes in relation to the privacy of children, visit our children's website's Privacy Policy
