Description
- Consult with and advise clinic and shelter leadership regarding operations
- Develop and maintain protocols pertaining to all aspects of veterinary care and advise on animal care and sanitation protocols
- Perform spay, neuter, dental, and other surgical and animal medical procedures on shelter and client animals
- Oversee and perform surgical monitoring, administration of pre-anesthetic and anesthetic drugs, and post-surgical monitoring through discharge
- Work with animal care staff to assess health of shelter animals and provide veterinary intervention as warranted
- Offer medical support to clinic client and foster pets and provide medical counseling, including via telehealth appointments if appropriate
- Supervise, support, and train Licensed Veterinary Technicians, Veterinary Assistants, and other clinic staff
- Maintain clinic-controlled substance log
- Ensure clinic compliance with all applicable laws established by the North Dakota Board of Veterinary Medicine and U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency
- Participate in continuing education programs in accordance with state requirements
- Oversee purchasing of clinic supplies and products as needed
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Maintain comprehensive records of each patient
- Attend and participate in shelter events, meetings, and community activities as needed.
- Participate in the externship rotation with Long Island University, providing training and mentorship to veterinary students.
- Uphold the highest standards of professional conduct, ethics, and animal welfare.
