Grants for Animal Shelters, Animal Control, Non-sheltering Organizations and Spay/Neuter Programs


The ASPCA is focused on increasing live outcomes and decreasing intake at shelters. Grant applications received at the formal invitation of a grant officer (solicited applications) will be reviewed as received. Unsolicited applications are accepted throughout the year and will be reviewed according to the following Review Cycles in 2013.

The ASPCA's funding priorities for 2013 include the following:

Adoption and Other Shelter Programs

  • High volume adoption events
  • Equipment that is part of a program implementation to reduce shelter intake (e.g. traps for a TNR (Trap-Neuter-Release) program, ID tagging machines and tags)
  • Adoption, RTO (Return-to-Owner) or any live release marketing campaigns that are program-targeted and have identified impact and methodology
  • Foster and foster-to-adoption programs for at-risk animals
  • Training that supports efforts to increase Live Release Rates or increase capacity for lifesaving programs
  • Safety net programs for at-risk animals (e.g. a pet food bank to keep animals in their homes)

Spay/Neuter Programs

  • Targeted spay/neuter programs where there are efforts to sterilize dogs and/or cats by concentrating on an identified local need or problem, such as particular neighborhoods, TNR, pets in low-income families or specific types or breeds of pets within a targeted area
  • Spay/neuter to increase capacity for live disposition of community animals, including spay/neuter for shelter animals
  • Equipment that is part of a spay/neuter program

Additional Guidelines

  • Please limit your request to no more than $5,000 or 10% of your annual budget, whichever is lower. Please do not include more than one project request in an application.
  • Lower priority may be given to organizations that have received a grant in the previous 6 months.
  • Your application will not be considered if you choose the incorrect application.
  • Equine organizations must submit their application on the Equine Fund page according to the guidelines posted there.
