Shelter’s Edge

Tip of the Week: Got 20 Minutes?

A cool program that lets volunteers see the results of their hard work AND ensures that every animal in your shelter gets daily behavioral enrichment?! Sign us up!

The Humane Society of Western Montana‘s “Got 20 Minutes?” program for volunteer staff has been an incredible success. Each animal is given a “Got 20 Minutes?” tag that is hung on their cage or kennel…

When the front of the sign is displayed, volunteers know that these animals are ready for their daily enrichment. When a volunteer provides that animal with 20 minutes of enrichment time, they flip the tag over and get a special “Thank You” for their good work.

As you enter a room, you can easily see who’s waiting to spend some quality time with the volunteers.

Got 2 minutes? Tell us how you’re utilizing volunteers in your agency’s enrichment programs.

P.S. Check out this wonderful signage developed by HSWM to encourage visitors and volunteers to sign up specifically for the “Got 20 Minutes?” program.
