Take Five Friday: Dirty Dishes, Prepping for Isaac & Who’s On Pinterest
- OK, I admit it—I love when you post Facebook photos of your dirty laundry, dirty dishes, volunteers chilling with the dogs, office cats sitting on your paperwork—all that backstage stuff that folks don’t always get to see but shows off all the hard work you do and the fun you have along the way. Who wouldn’t wanna support you?!
Case in point: Animal Rescue League of Iowa’s Behind the Scenes! photo album, featuring shots like this newly adopted kitty who “couldn’t decide which toy to pick, so she hopped in to get a closer look.” (Way to let folks know you have a retail store, guys!)

…and this one of staff hard at work (Accompanying caption: “Our corner cat kennels are big enough for a person!”)
Does your agency have a similar album? Post the link in the comment box, please!
- Reunited and it looks so good (on Facebook): You guys really know how to celebrate your adoptions, and it’s great to see more & more posts about pets returned to their owners—that’s some major lifesavin’, too!

Love not only the status that went along with this photo on Sacramento County Animal Care’s Facebook Timeline (“Thanks to a microchip and patient research by staff, Roxy was reunited with her owner Paul when we opened today! She was so happy!!!”), but the comments from fans, too (“See people, microchipping works!!”).
- Q: Are 501(c)(3) organizations allowed to engage in political activity?
For the answer to that question and more—like how your organization can weigh in on local ordinances—join the ASPCA’s Beverly Jones, VP & Corporate Counsel, next Wednesday, September 12, at 3 ET for a free webinar, “Conducting Lobbying and Legislative Activities.”
- Major kudos to so many of you on smart hurricane preparedness planning in advance of Isaac—that includes Humane Society of Tampa Bay, who microchipped more than 1,200 pets at a free clinic “to help people protect their pets from being lost during Isaac.”

The Louisiana SPCA sent many of their animals to SPCA of Texas, a transfer allowing them to better respond to animals in need before, during and after the storm.

- One of my favorite animal sheltering-related Pinterest destinations: UC Davis Koret Shelter Medicine Program‘s Gimme Shelter: Design & Housing board, from whence came this gem:
Also wanted to thank the good doctors for pinning us on their Animal Health and Disease Control board—it’s like the social networking equivalent of going steady.
