Shelter’s Edge

Tip of the Week: Let’s Go To The Videotape!

A dog’s behavior can change quickly, so even the best-trained eye can miss behavior. Observing body language objectively is essential for a valid assessment and proper scoring. Video can be used for training, reviewing the dog’s behavior and helping place dogs through rescue and fosters. Some brands, like Flip video, make it easy to share video by email and start at $80.

To brush up on your canine body language skills, listen to some of the free Canine Communications webinars and check out the Canine Behavior glossary.

Using the comment section below, describe a time when video footage of an assessment was helpful to you.

Meet us here every Monday for tips we’ve gleaned and seen that may make your life a little easier, make a routine process go a little faster or deliver some extra comfort for the animals in your care.
