Tip of the Week: You’ve Got the Power Language
Asking for money is even more daunting when you’re requesting lots of it – that’s why it’s so important to be prepared with polished language when meeting with a potential major donor. Even Sean O’Connor, Senior Vice President, Development Guild/DDI, who has been fundraising for a living for over 20 years, admits to practicing his pitch in front of the mirror.
“Rehearsing helps get the language out of my mouth so I don’t trip on the words,” he says. All that practice has allowed O’Connor to perfect the art of power language – the right words said in the right way to get major donors on board. Here are his favorite approaches:
