Take Five Friday: Easy-Peasy Facebook Contest, Sweetest Photo Ever and Pets in Hot Cars Messaging
- Amazing job by so many of you on raising awareness about the dangers of pets in hot cars. I’ve seen lots of Facebook posts surrounding this important topic, and just wanted to pass on some additional resources to share with your communities, like this video from RedRover:
Check their website for more materials on pets in hot cars.
- Instant social media engagement: Run a fun contest like this one, courtesy of Animal Rescue League of Iowa:
3 reasons this rocks: 1. What a fun way to promote an event! 2.) Hearing about adoptions numbers makes people feel good and 3.) shows off the great work you do.
- Swoon-inducing new program from Central Brevard Humane Society:
Volunteer fosters take home animals who’ve been at the shelter for more than 6 months for a little TLC. CBHS sets ‘em up with an “overnight bag” with collar, toys and other goodies. Oh, and if the foster chooses to make the vacation a permanent one, the adoption fee is waived.
- So much good goin’ on with this Facebook post from Sacramento SPCA:
This saves staff writing time by getting user-generated content for their blog, and is a nice way to increase Facebook engagement. Plus, people LOVE the opportunity to contribute, and they get to see their contributions in print. And d’oh, they’re also letting folks know they have a blog!
- Yup, I did promise you the sweetest photo ever. Here it is, via Wisconsin Humane Society—Ozaukee Campus’ Facebook Wall:
Miley, 8 years young, found her new loving home last week. Just checked in on WHS’ original post, where Miley’s new owner’s granddaughter left a comment. Everybody’s doing great, and Miley got a new name—Hope. Doncha love it when that happens?!
And P.S. it’s so cool to get updates on recent adoptions! Do you keep in contact with new adopters via Facebook?

Thanks to the ASPCA for including the picture of Miley getting adopted from our campus! Our adopters love keeping us up to date with emails, letters, and photos on our Facebook page, and its fun that you at the ASPCA get to see that too!
