Shelter’s Edge

Tip of the Week: And Your (Data) Point Is…. ?

Does deciphering your agency’s data definitions make staff feel like they’re solving a riddle? If so, you might take a step back and simplify. Clearly defined data points enable Intake staff to easily apply definitions as animals appear in front of them. Other benefits might be more accurate statistics reported to your board, community and grantors. Once you’ve defined a data point – stray, owned or seized, for example – stick to it, and refer back to the definitions so your internal communications are consistent, concise and coordinated.

How have you simplified data terms in your organization?

Meet us back here next Monday for more tips we’ve gleaned and seen that may make your life a little easier, make a routine process go a little faster or deliver some extra comfort for the animals in your care.
