Judging by the number of views to this post—it made our top 10 most popular pages on the website last week—I’m guessing that looking at this incredible dog walking board from the Santa Fe Animal Shelter & Humane Society solicited a kid-in-a-candy-store moment from many of you. And when we linked to this post over on Facebook, Kelley S. commented, “I never thought I would be envious of a dry erase board in my life…yet, here I am… Wowza!”
So…here are the deets from Kelly Tribelhorn, Director of Adoptions & Compassion Services at the Santa Fe Animal Shelter & Humane Society. “This board has been a very valuable tool for us,” says Kelly. “I can’t imagine how we worked without it years ago!”
–Was designed by a volunteer to help track which dogs got out for walks during a specific volunteer shift.
- Board is laid out as an exact map of the kennels, with each kennel having 3 small boxes at the top to designate the 3 volunteer shifts.
- Dog names are written in each kennel space daily.
- Numbered paw print magnets show the order of walks, done in chronological order. As the second volunteer shift comes in, they take the next number in line and start the 2nd round of walks using the 2nd box, and so on.
- Very helpful communication board for various info that the agency likes to share with volunteers: i.e., magnets that say “Adopted Today!” or “Resting Today,” “PBO (potty breaks only),” “See Volunteer Board,” etc.
- Small round paw print magnets are also used for those dogs who need to be socialized, but aren’t ready for full walks just yet.
Adds Kelly, “The great thing about the board is that it’s more accessible than a computer for seeing who lives where, how many times they’ve gotten out for the day and who’s been adopted. A great overall view of the adoption kennels for all to use!”
