Shelter’s Edge

Tip of the Week: Making a List and Checking it Twice

It’s Monday morning… do you know where your fosters are?

Keeping your foster inventory up to date can make your data life a whole lot easier. A modest investment of time & a commitment to recording all outcomes paves the way for an accurate count of the animals in your foster care system.

Things can change quickly in foster care, and a solid inventory allows you to stay on top of late-breaking news, such as babies being born, animals transitioning to another foster home, animals returning to your agency for adoption, and animals who get adopted by the foster family. So polish up that inventory & check it twice. You’ll have an accurate animal count and know which foster homes are available for another assignment.

Already got a squeaky clean inventory? Ready to polish it up a bit? Share this idea with your colleagues or bring it to your next staff meeting.

We’ll meet you here every week for tips we’ve gleaned and seen that may make your life a little easier, make a routine process go a little faster or deliver some extra comfort for the animals in your care.
