So y’all think we do everything bigger in Texas?
Well, here’s an event that was a real snoozefest!
This past December, Austin Humane Society held its 4th annual Shelter Sleepover, in hopes of bringing a little bit of “home” to dogs and cats who don’t have families of their own. Volunteers and staff donned their jammies, set up a dog park in the auditorium and let the kitties explore outside of their condos. It was totally wild, man! One Lab mix got caught with a lampshade on his head and… (OK, OK, that last part’s not quite correct…)
“It’s a fun evening, but the message is serious,” says Lisa Starr, AHS’ marketing director, of this novel way to raise community awareness about the problem of pet overpopulation. “More than ever, these animals need a warm and cozy place to call home.”
A sweet dream indeed! And as the festivities wound down, foster volunteer/musician Robert Griswold took out his guitar and treated us to bedtime lullabies in the dog kennel and cat colony. Zzzzzzzz….
