Helping animals exposed to potentially hazardous substances is the mission of the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center (APCC). As North America's premier animal poison control center, the APCC:
- Provides 24-hour veterinary and diagnostic treatment recommendations by specially trained veterinary toxicologists.
- Protects and improves animal lives through toxicology education, consulting services, and case data review (as an alternative to traditional animal research).
- Developed AnTox™, a powerful, clinical, animal toxicology database system, to identify and characterize toxic effects of substances in animals.
- Works closely with human poison control centers to provide animal poisoning information and is a member of the American Association of Poison Control Centers.
- Offers extensive veterinary toxicology consulting to organizations in industry, government, and agriculture.
We also partner with PetRays. PetRays provides veterinary telemedicine consulting
services to help veterinarians improve the speed and quality of animal
health care provided to their clinics. Their staff of board-certified
specialists provide consultations for large and small animals, avian,
exotics, and equine in the areas of radiology, internal medicine,
cardiology, dermatology, dentistry, ophthalmology, critical care,
anesthesiology, neurology, and oncology. Services are available 24
hours a day, 7 days a week. Callers who are transferred to the ASPCA
Animal Poison Control Center directly from PetRays will receive a $5
discount for each established case. The caller is still responsible for
paying the remainder of the fee, if applicable. If and when the ASPCA
Animal Poison Control Center provides clients with PetRays’ contact
information, those clients will be provided with consultations from
PetRays based on the needs of the animal(s) involved. PetRays’ fees and
availability will vary by consultation type and fee structure.
