Add a Penny Tax

Marion County, FL, added a penny in sales tax for two years for a capital improvement plan for the county. Funds went to the jail, the library, the courts system, and the expansion of the Marion County Animal Center, doubling the kennel size from 36 to 72 and connecting it to the adoption wing.

The commissioners have already funded a Neuter Scooter mobile spay/neuter unit and are looking to purchase a second van.

A temporary, small tax increase could contribute significant funds to a spay/neuter initiative. Your county commissioners would need to support a tax program like this one. Before contacting them, you'll need a proposal with specific plans for the money raised and good statistics showing the need for your plan.
